T. Parker Host was founded in 1923 and has been a long-time maritime leader. Occupying a suite on the 16th floor of the Suntrust Building in downtown Norfolk, VA, T. Parker Host selected Arive to develop a design concept that honored the company’s historic past, while creating a modern image that physically defines their core principals. It was imperative that the space connect visitors and staff to the maritime industry both visually and through materials. Exterior views were maintained for visitors and celebrated in staff areas. Each department is placed in a zone that is specifically designed to support the work of that department, thus some areas are more collaborative, with open space and bench style work desks; while others are more traditional cubicles with enclosed huddle rooms for meetings. Some departments have views of specific piers where that group works daily. A subtle nautical theme is used throughout and informs the design of ceiling and architectural elements in the space. The elevator lobby is lined with teak wood veneer that has a printed custom graphic of nautical charts illustrating many of the ports that T. Parker Host conducts their business.
